Candle is an object that is used as a source of light. This object consists of a string that is wrapped around a highly flammable fuel. Now, there are so many people who make DIY Candles. This issue is because many people feel that making their own candles can increase creativity and of course save a lot of money. Candles have various types. 

Here are the types of candles and their benefits.

  • Votive Candle

Votive candles are small candles, 2.5 inches high. This candle is round or square. The candle usually have a lighting function. This candle is made of paraffin and comes in many colors.

Pillar candles can burn for quite a long time, which is about 3-4 hours and are not smoky. This candle has more than one wick. Its use is decorative, therefore it can be placed on a plate or hung.

  • Birthday Candle

As the name suggests, this candle is commonly used in birthday events. Interestingly, this candle is very safe and does not harm the body. When used, these candles will not drip on a birthday cake. Birthday candles are usually made of synthetic material and has 7 inches long. This candle has a variety of shapes and colors. Because it is tailored to the order.

  • Scented Candles

Candle with aromatherapy is a candle like in general. The difference is that this candle has a variety of scents. Scented candles are commonly found in various corners of the room to be used as aromatherapy. This candle contains essential oils that are useful for improving mental and physical health. Currently, there are many types or variations of scents offered in scented candles.

In this article, I will be attempting to describe a DIY (Do It Yourself) Candle that is very easy to do. The candle of this time will focus on therapeutic scented candles. Come see how to make it!

The materials you need to prepare to make DIY Candles.

  1. One whole candle with its axis.
  2. Knife.
  3. Heat-resistant container for melting the wax.
  4. Essential oil (it doesn't take much, just a few drops).
  5. Small glass as a candle holder.
  6. Chopsticks to hold the candle wick.
  7. One heat-resistant spatula for stirring the melted wax.
  8. Enough water.
  9. Scissors, to cut the candle wick.
  10. Optionally, dried flowers with distinctive variations. For example, dried flowers with rose variations.
  11. Optionally, a sticker with a square shape with writing according to the scent of dried flowers on the candle to be made

After all the ingredients above have been prepared, the next step is to start doing the DIY. No need to worry about failing, just do it carefully and in accordance with the steps. Here are step by step making DIY Candles, listen it!

  1. The first step, prepare a whole candle and a knife complete with a place to cut.
  2. Start cutting the wax starting from the bottom end, cut into very thin and small pieces like chopped. Keep in mind that when cutting the candle, don't cut the wick. Instead, set the candle wicks aside first.
  3. Put the wax pieces in a heat-resistant container.
  4. Prepare a teflon with a little water, bring to a boil.
  5. After boiling, put the glass containing the candle over the boiling water.
  6. Take a spatula, then stir gently.
  7. After you feel it has melted completely, turn off the stove and remove the candle.
  8. Put a few drops of essential oil into the melted wax, then gently mix it with a spatula. Let stand for five minutes. This step is recommended because essential oils will make the aroma we want smell good.
  9. After five minutes, pour the melted wax into a small glass. Only half way, no need to fill it up.
  10. Insert the candle wick right in the middle. Hold it with one hand.
  11. Then add the remaining melted wax again, this time adding it to leave a little room in the glass.
  12. Tie the remaining candle wick at the top to the chopsticks. This is useful for holding the candle wick from falling on the candle which will harden.
  13. Wait a few minutes. Take a scented dried flower and pluck it off the petals.
  14. Spread the small passage into the nearly hardened candle. You can put it on one side only or spread it on all sides. Then wait for a few minutes.
  15. After the wax has completely hardened, take a pair of scissors and cut the candle wick at the top. Leave only a small amount for later burning the candle.
  16. Take the sticker that you have prepared, then attach it to the side of the glass. Smooth it out perfectly.
  17. DIY Candle is finished.

When burned, this candle will smell according to the variety of flowers made. You can put it in the right place, such as near the shower, corner of the work room, or in the room.

Making candles with various types or shapes does not require a lot of effort or money. This is what makes DIY Candles more popular than buying in stores. In my opinion, this DIY Candle is very easy to do. Given that it does not require a lot of money, it is not difficult to make it, and does not require extra effort in practicing it.
